Cituji z Norman Friedman - U.S. Battleships - An Illustrated Design History (strana 294):
"All ships but Indiana were completed with four-bladed propellers on each shaft. Extensive model tests showed that five-bladed propellers on the skegs and four-bladed propellers inboard would be superior, and Indiana was completed in this form. Vibration trials (Indiana) in September 1942 showed this arrangement superior to the 4 blade outboards/3 blade inboard combination then being installed aboard the South Dakota, and the 5/4 combination was installed aboard the Massachusetts (1944) and Alabama (1943). The South Dakota reverted to all four-bladed propellers in 1944, however, and the Indiana was fitted with three- (instead of four-) bladed inboard propellers in the summer of 1945, as a result of the 1945 vibration survey of the Alabama."
Takže:
USS South Dakota: 4-4-4-4 (zařazení do služby) -> 4-3-3-4 (1942) -> 4-4-4-4 (1944)
USS Indiana: 5-4-4-5 (zařazení do služby) -> 5-3-3-5 (1945)
USS Massachusetts: 4-4-4-4 (zařazení do služby) -> 5-4-4-5 (1944)
USS Alabama: 4-4-4-4 (zařazení do služby) -> 5-4-4-5 (1943)
